Toast may be a breakfast staple, but you might be itching to mix it up a bit. Add some new flavor–and nutrients–to your toast every morning with three easy recipes below!
Avocado Toast
Select your favorite type of toasting bread. (Experts recommend whole grain.) Toast it until it is golden brown. Rather than mashing the avocado directly onto the bread, mash it in a separate bowl, then sprinkle on some sea salt. You can add a little garlic powder for an extra zing. Be creative! Throw on some fresh tomato slices, pico de gallo, or even a fried egg for more protein.
Hummus and Vegetable Toast
You don’t have to save your hummus for lunchtime—spread it on your toast as a base for roasted veggies. Toss some handfuls of chopped red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, and red onions with some olive oil and a pinch of salt. Place the vegetables on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Add the veggies on top of your hummus and enjoy! If you’re in a pinch, raw vegetables work just as well. If you’re the type to go the extra mile and make your own hummus, you can find an easy recipe here.
Banana Peanut Butter Toast
Maybe you have a sweet tooth and the savory options above just don’t cut it. Mixing bananas with peanut butter is a healthy alternative to eating dessert for breakfast. Simply spread peanut butter on top of your toast and top it with banana slices. Add some cinnamon or even a few chocolate chips if you’re feeling fancy!
