To put it bluntly, it’s stupid to overpay for healthcare. Every time you make a non-healthcare purchase, you know how much each item costs. Why isn’t that how healthcare works? Well, at MotivHealth that is how it works. Our SmartPay program allows members to see how much their procedure costs at various in-network providers before choosing where to receive care. When you realize that some high-quality providers offer the same procedure for a much lower price, you’ll stop overspending on healthcare. You get to choose. Our personal health assistants are happy to help members find the lowest-priced, high-quality providers. Members that call one of our personal health assistants (855-582-4472) before scheduling a planned procedure receive an average incentive between $100-$3000 per procedure (and sometimes even more).
The Power of Cash-Pay
When you “cash-pay” (pay in advance or on the day of your procedure), you are very likely to receive a discount. Facilities and providers are relieved to not pay a claims team to process your bill or “chase-the-check,” and you’re relieved not to think about the bill anymore—no overhanging “pay-it-later” stress.
When we say cash-pay offers discounts, we mean big discounts. A Los Angeles Times article from 2012 reported that a patient was charged $6,707 for a CT scan of her abdomen and pelvis. After running the claim through her health insurance, the amount owed was only $2,336. But if she hadn’t used her insurance at all (a.k.a. cash-paid), she would have paid just $1,054, or 89% less than the original cost. In healthcare, cash is king. Learn more here.
MotivAdvance
What if a member undergoes a particularly expensive procedure and cannot cash-pay? If you have an HSA eligible plan, that’s what MotivAdvance is for. The MotivAdvance program offers a consumer loan which MotivHealth issues to cover SmartPay-eligible procedures when members are unable to pay in advance or on the day of service. Members must apply and agree to let MotivHealth deduct monthly funds from their HSA over a period of twelve months to pay back the loan, or they can pay directly. The loan has a 0% interest rate and a 3% origination fee.
No credit check is required to use the MotivAdvance program. When wanting to use the program on an eligible SmartPay procedure, members must simply apply and sign the loan documents. Once approved, MotivHealth will pay for the procedure, members will get the SmartPay-discounted rate, and MotivHealth will begin deducting HSA funds monthly over a twelve-month period.
